Medical Library for Students

  • Students enrolled in the medical school have full access to a complete Medical Library.
  • The state of the art 4000 square feet library at BIMS SOM-HP will be fully powered including the internet accessibility in the study cabins along with the digital version of the educational resources for the students.
  • The library houses a diversified collection of volumes incorporating most aspects of the basic and clinical medical sciences.
  • Resources may also include special subject emphasis in Podiatric medicine, lower extremity studies, orthopedics, biomechanics, diabetic medicine, and sports medicine.
  • All books, journals, audio-visual, or reprint material can be located in the library. Patrons may search by TITLE AUTHOR, SUBJECT, or CALL NUMBER and can easily see if items are on the shelf are on the shelf or checked out.
  • The Library gives full bibliographic citations, abstracts, and indicates when a journal is in the Library collection and any further updates. Library staff members can search other database through subscription to Dialog.
  • Library staff will respond to written, email or telephone, and personal requests for assistance in locating information on a wide range of subjects. The resources available to answer a request are not limited to those within the Library.
  • The Learning Resources Center (LRC), located in the Library, consists of four Macintosh work stations, a scanner, and a laser printer (printing shall be at cost per page). The LRC is used by students, residence and faculty for word processing, preparation of programs, and production of the student newspaper. In addition, the LCR is designed to support a variety of interactive learning software such as Anatomage and Holoanatomy (conditions apply) which allows students to “dissect” various sections of the human body.
  • The Library houses a collection of audiovisual material which demonstrates clinical and surgical techniques, support class lectures, and patient education. Some of these materials may be available for overnight borrowing    
  • General circulated books may be checked out to qualified borrowers for one month. Reserve books circulate for either seven days or overnight use. Reprints may be checked out for a period of one week. Journals and reference materials do not circulate. The Library has a self-service.
