The successful candidate must be a champion for innovation and entrepreneurship in online education, educational technology, continuing education and training (CET), and other aspects of medical and health professions education.  Faculty is expected to use an integrated approach in their teaching methodology (e.g. Simulated Patients Lab) to ensure critical thinking skills development in our students. This candidate is expected to be a strong leader and have a proven track record in Medical education, administration, and research, with a significant peer-reviewed research portfolio, as well as a keen understanding of the complexities of an academic department in a medical school.

We expect our Faculty to develop meaningful relationships with students for academic, career, and personal advising, and to contribute to the Mission of the College through active participation on committees and other activities of the institution. We are currently seeking to fill the position of Professor of Anatomy at BIMS SOM & HP. Our Institution is committed to the training of highly competent, caring physicians, & health practitioners who will demonstrate a “whole person” approach to care.

Our curriculum utilises the problem-solving methodology which allows our students to adopt a more professional, more team-oriented manner, which prepares them to work successfully in integrated healthcare settings with other health professionals. The use of sophisticated state-of-the-art technology in the teaching of Anatomy (e.g. Table 8) along with a simulation centre and a full library of online histological, embryological and gross anatomy learning tools are the features of our new, modern campus which will facilitate a continuous learning platform for our students, ensuring the best possible learning experience/environment.

Specific Position Requirements:

Education:

  • Ideally a PhD and M.D., or D.O. degree of at least 5 years’ duration or a MSc and M.D./D.O. for at least 8 years

Experience:

  • At least five years teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical science students in the anatomical sciences.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in teaching embryology and histology.
  • Experience in the teaching of Neuroanatomy would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in design and implementation of educational technologies, specific technologies for Anatomy teaching, integrated learning and online delivery methods of Anatomy courses and programs, at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Experience in active learning is preferred.
  • Experience in a collaborative approach to education is preferred.
  • Open to non-traditional research.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Teach students in the clinically orientated anatomical sciences (Gross anatomy, Histology, Embryology, Neuroanatomy at the under-graduate and graduate levels using state-of-the-art technology and on-line media.
  • Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student progress in the course
  • Contribute to the development of the Anatomy programme.
  • Conduct research and produce publications (in peer reviewed journals) in the discipline of Anatomy and related areas.
  • Contribute actively to development and affairs of the Department and the University
  • Other duties as assigned by the College Leadership.

School of Medicine and Health Sciences (BIMS SOM-HP) invites applications for a full-time Professor position in the Department of Physiology. The successful candidate will be an integral part of an interdisciplinary team of faculty committed to excellence in innovative education and scholarship of the Institution.   • Ideally a PhD in Physiology of at least 5 years duration.
  • An MD degree would be a major asset

  • A minimum of 5 years teaching undergraduate and graduate students preferably in all areas of Human Physiology,
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of modern technological and pedagogical methodologies in the teaching of human physiology, especially in the area of laboratory exercises

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include (but are not limited to) the following: 

  • Lecture students throughout the preclinical years in human physiology, especially with a clinical orientation
  • Development and design of the Human Physiology curriculum
  • Develop and administer assessments to medical students to evaluate their scientific knowledge and progress in the Physiology course.
  • Communicate these evaluations to the student and administrative/faculty members as appropriate
  • Engagement in scholarly activities that result in publications in peer reviewed journals and professional presentations.
  • Contribute actively to the development and affairs of the Department and University
  • Serve in leadership and membership capacities on college committees.
  • Other duties as assigned by the College leadership.

The College seeks candidates for the Lecturer position in Cellular and Molecular Biology. The successful candidate will have responsibility for the development and execution of the curriculum in cellular and molecular biology, bioinformatics and genomics.

Specific Position Requirements:

Education:

  • Ideally a PhD degree and postdoctoral training in cellular biology and/or molecular biology discipline(s) from an accredited institution of at least 3 years duration

Experience:

  • Track record of at least 3 years lecturing to medical students and research in the areas of cell biology and molecular biology.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching would be an asset
  • Experience in active learning and collaborative teaching is preferred.
  • Demonstration of the use of modern technological and pedagogical methodologies in the teaching of cellular and molecular biology especially incorporated into laboratory exercises
  • Exhibit a strong record of peer-reviewed publications

  • Lecture to undergraduate medical and health sciences students
  • Effective design and assessment of course material and curriculum that is innovative
  • Provide an active-learning approach to the delivery of excellence in teaching and student learning in cellular biology/molecular biology.

Position Requirements

  • Ideally a PhD in pharmacology of at least 4 years. An MD degree would be a major asset
  • Interest in and evidence of innovation and entrepreneurship (use of modern technological and pedagogical methodologies) in tertiary medical education as well as scholarly research specifically in the area of Pharmacology; research in medical education would be an asset
  • At least 3 – 5 years teaching experience in higher education settings.
  • Experience in active learning is preferred.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching would be an asset

  • The capacity to teach effectively in the areas of ethics and population health, health care systems, health equity, preventive health policy, nutrition and global health, social and economic development, women’s and children’s health
  • Evidence of public health practice experience through publications, seminars, demonstrated field work.

  • The position will require outstanding communication and education skills, including engagement with UNSW Australia’s contemporary pedagogy and innovation in teaching and learning platforms. 
  • The Senior Lecturer will be responsible for making a significant contribution to excellence in research-led teaching within the anatomical sciences that complements existing strengths and resources within the School and Department.

Position Requirements:

  • A doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in Human Physiology, Biology, or a closely related field
  • A minimum of 5 years teaching experience at the college/university level is required
  • Demonstrated competence in teaching human physiology
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • A desire to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
  • Prior experience with academic advising for health sciences students is highly desired

ADJUNCT PROFESSORS

Position Requirements

  • An MD degree of at least 5 years duration
  • Post-graduate (Master’s, DM) qualifications/Specialist in Haematology or related field
  • University or clinical teaching experience of at least 3 years duration
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lecture in haematology, inclusive of didactic and laboratory sessions to Preclinical Medical Students
  • Develop and maintain innovative teaching materials.
  • Participate in scholarly activities/research such as publications, grants, and the development with other faculty members.
  • Participate in professional development designed to expand knowledge and skills and maintain competency in medical laboratory science.
  • Correlates clinical education with didactic education and evaluates student performance and learning.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the discipline and educational methodologies
  • Maintain appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.

BIMS SOM-HP is also seeking two (2) Adjunct Lecturers to lecture in the Introduction to Clinical Medicine 3 course.

Position Requirements

  • The applicants should have their MD degrees of 5 years or more
  • Specialist Internal Medicine qualifications of at least 3 years
  • Have University or clinical teaching experience of at least 3 years duration
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The selected person will teach pre-clinical students and undertake duties in connection with Skills Lab and Simulated Patients teaching, Tutorial sessions as necessary
  • Will prepare and conduct examinations
  • Will operate within the guidelines for working hours in Adjunct positions.
